Both primary and secondary teachers have the opportunity to sign up for a poetry slam in their school or get a tailored OutLoud program, workshop, presentation or residency with a professional teaching poet.

Poets can come for a workshop, presentation or depending on the year level and amount of students can support your school slam with a residency.

Let your students unlock their creativity with this unique form of expression, confidence building and community!

“The best thing for me was seeing the students who are usually not confident in literacy sessions, and don’t volunteer to share their work, or read aloud, get up and perform a written piece with so much energy and confidence. Also, seeing the students work together and collaborate… every one of them was able to put forward their ideas, listen to others and make suggestions on changes and how to perform their poem. We saw lots of groups overcome disagreements and produce a poem that the whole team was proud of.”

Laura Banks, a Year 6 teacher at St Marys, Williamstown.

“The workshops were a wonderful opportunity for students to work with other committed and curious poets. Emilie created a safe and inclusive space, which supported the students to write bravely and honestly. The group was particularly shy and through encouragement, enthusiasm and inspiration, she helped them to gain confidence to present in front of a small group. It was special to see a number of students show a new side of themselves and to feel comfortable speaking up and sharing their poetry with their peers. The workshops were a terrific addition to our new poetry unit and also a good opportunity for staff to observe and learn from Emilie.”
